Our commitment to the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and how we protect data for every school on the platform.
BEESKUL is committed to compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (EU) 2016/679. This statement outlines our approach and the measures we have implemented to protect personal data.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a comprehensive data protection law that came into effect on 25 May 2018. It strengthens data protection rights for individuals within the European Union and regulates how personal data is collected, processed, and stored. While BEESKUL operates primarily in Africa, we apply GDPR principles as a global best-practice standard across all our operations.
For our own business operations and marketing activities, BEESKUL acts as a Data Controller — we determine the purposes and means of processing personal data.
For school management services, BEESKUL acts as a Data Processor. Educational institutions (our customers) are the Data Controllers, and we process personal data strictly on their behalf and according to their documented instructions.
We adhere to all seven GDPR principles:
| Principle | Our Implementation |
|---|---|
| Lawfulness, Fairness & Transparency | Clear privacy policies, legitimate interest assessments and transparent processing notices |
| Purpose Limitation | Data collected only for specific, explicit educational management purposes |
| Data Minimisation | Only necessary data fields are collected and retained |
| Accuracy | Regular data validation and update procedures built into the platform |
| Storage Limitation | Defined data retention schedules aligned with educational regulations |
| Integrity & Confidentiality | Encryption at rest and in transit; strict access controls |
| Accountability | Documented processing activities, DPIAs and regular audits |
We facilitate all data subject rights with a 30-day response commitment:
| Right | Description | Response Time |
|---|---|---|
| Right to Access | Request a copy of personal data held | Within 30 days |
| Right to Rectification | Correct inaccurate or incomplete data | Within 30 days |
| Right to Erasure | Request deletion of personal data | Within 30 days |
| Right to Restriction | Restrict how data is processed | Within 30 days |
| Right to Portability | Receive data in a portable, machine-readable format | Within 30 days |
| Right to Object | Object to specific types of processing | Within 30 days |
| Automated Decision Rights | Request human review of automated decisions | Within 30 days |
We enter into formal Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) with:
